LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks will host Go Green Night, presented by Waste Management, on Thursday, August 27th when the Sparks take on the Phoenix Mercury at STAPLES Center at 7:30pm.

The Sparks Go Green Night is an opportunity for organizations to team up with the Sparks to generate awareness and funding to protect the environment. The Sparks Green Team formed to help promote the benefits of going green, to support environmental preservation organizations and to encourage fans to acquire green habits. The Sparks Green Team includes Waste Management, Heal the Bay, The Jonathan Club, Metrolink and the Tree People.

In honor of Go Green Night, 5,000 wildflower seed packets will be given away at the doors and 6,000 Waste Management Cheer Cards will be passed out in the stands during the game. At halftime, an auction will be held for Sparks Go Green Warm Ups and basketballs autographed by the entire team to benefit the Los Angeles Parks Foundation.

A special Waste Management Go Green on-court contest will be held during the game and green tips featuring Sparks players will be shown throughout the game on the video board. As a special promotion, fans will have the opportunity to receive two free tickets to the Sparks game on September 1st against the Atlanta Dream at 7:30pm by bringing their old cell phones to the game. Sparks partner Boost Mobile will recycle the phones to help protect the environment from e-waste. Cell phones will be accepted at the 11th Street and Figueroa Street entrances before the game.

On the STAPLES Center concourse, organizations will have a chance to exhibit their Go Green goals and commitment to environmental protection programs. The participating organizations include the City of Pasadena, Nativescape Development, Inc., Air Quality Management District, Clean Green Guy, Green Print Alliance, Rentech, Brentwood Royal Cleaners and more.

The Green Team initiative will continue on Saturday, August 29th at Santa Monica Beach when the Sparks along with partners Waste Management, Heal the Bay, Metrolink, the Jonathan Club and the Tree People will pick up trash on the beach.
