
Sox Sign Trio

AMARILLO, TX ¬" The Amarillo Sox announced the signing of former Amarillo Dillas reliever Corey Bass, former Sioux City relief pitcher Chad Povich and former University of Iowa standout, shortstop Jason White.
The 6-3, 210 lbs Corey Bass joins the Sox after a solid year in relief for the Amarillo Dillas in 2010. In five appearances, Bass struck out nine batters and allowed one unearned run in six and two-thirds innings of work. The right-handed pitcher was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 47th round of the 2004 draft out of Petal River Community College. The Petal, Mississippi native spent four years in the Astros system, advancing up to A+ Salem in 2008. Since 2009, he has bounced around independent teams, including a stint with Pensacola in 2009.
Chad Povich is a Broomfield, Colorado native who attended the Dixie State College of Utah. The 6-1, 190 lbs right-hander was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 42nd round of the 2007 draft. Povich had a meteoric rise, pitching in only 18 games before reaching double-AA Portland in the 2007 season. He received a World Series ring as a member of the Red Sox 2007 farm system. Povich remained in the Boston farm system until 2009 when he was released. He joined Sioux City of the American Association in 2010 where he split time between middle relief and starting. He finished 2010 with a 5.17 ERA and a 5-2 record. He was acquired by the Sox in a trade with Sioux City for Javier Brito.
The 6-1, 175 lbs left-handed hitter Jason White resides in Fort Collins, Colorado. White spent four years with the University of Iowa where he finished his senior season as a Big Ten All-Star selection with a .333 avg, 10 homeruns and 38 RBI. White was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the 2007 draft. He advanced up to double-AA Bowie of the Eastern League in 2009 and recently spent time with Frederick of the single-A Carolina League. White is expected to be the starting shortstop, where he compiled a career .961 fielding percentage in 178 minor league games.
