PASCO, WA: Alberto Rodriguez and Dariel Gomez scored on a two-out ninth inning Jose Guzman fielding error, breaking the tie and giving the Everett AquaSox (12-9) the lead on the way to a 3-1 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils (8-13).

Neither team could generate offense early as AquaSox starting pitchers Prelander Berroa and Dust Devils starter Brent Killam each carried no hitters into the fourth inning before Rodriguez finally lined a one-out single into center field in the top of the fourth inning.

Dariel Gomez ended the scoreless battle when he led off the top of the fifth inning by hitting his league leading 17th home run over the left field wall. It was only the second hit of the game.

The AquaSox carried their 1-0 lead, and the no hitter, into the seventh inning when Mike Peabody ended the Tri-City hitless game when he lined a double over the head of Rodriguez in right field. Peabody scored one batter later when Steven Rivas hit a high chopper over to the left side of the infield.

The game was still tied at 1-1 going into the top of the ninth inning. Rodriguez tripled into right field with one-out in the top of the ninth inning to put the go ahead run in scoring position. Gomez walked with two outs, putting runners on the corners as James Parker stepped to the plate. Parker hit a routine pop fly over to second base and it looked as though the game would remain tied going into the bottom of the ninth however Guzman misjudged the ball at his second base position and the ball landed behind his extended glove. Rodriguez and Gomez were both running on the play and scored, giving the AquaSox a 3-1 lead.

AquaSox reliever Max Roberts closed out the game by retiring the side in the ninth inning, including back to back strikeouts of Mitch Nay and Peabody to end the game.

Berroa threw four hitless innings, allowing one walk and five strikeouts. AquaSox starting pitchers Prelander Berroa (two games), Logan Rinehart, Jimmy Joyce, Juan Mercedes and Bryce Miller combined to pitch 30.2 innings during the six-game series, allowing 12 hits, one earned run, eight walks and 43 strikeouts with an ERA of 0.29. Villarreal pitched two hitless innings, walking one batter and striking out four. Roberts retired all three batters that he faced and has not allowed a run in his last seven outings, going 9.2 innings, allowing only six hits, two walks and 18 strikeouts since June 24.

The AquaSox and minor league baseball have a four day break to coincide with the MLB All-Star break. The Sox return to action on Friday July 22 with a three game homestand against the Eugene Emeralds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:50 p.m.
