Sox Return Home, But Lose

July 29, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Bristol White Sox News Release

The Bristol Sox returned home to face the Elizabethton Twins after an eight-game road trip that included trips to Pulaski and Kingsport. The 10-25 Sox were looking to find their stride and seemed to find it by putting up three runs early in the first inning.

The Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead when Kale Kiser scored on an error followed by a sacrifice fly by Eric Grabe and an RBI groundout by Nick Basto.

The Twins put two runs on the board in each of the top of the second and third innings to take a 4-3 lead going into the fourth inning. The Twins' production was highlighted by an Adam Walker homerun and a two-run single by Max Kepler.

The Twins added to their lead by putting up three runs in the top of fifth, but the Sox battled to get a run on the board in the bottom of the inning. Grabe's second sacrifice fly of the game made the score 7-4.

In what turned out to be a huge sixth inning for the Twins, they put four runs on the board to blow the game wide open, taking an 11-4 lead. The inning saw two pitching changes by the Sox, who walked four batters, allowed two doubles, and threw a wild pitch in the inning.

Alex Williams drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 11-5, but after back-to-back bases-loaded strikeouts, the Sox rally halted.

David Haselden took the loss for the Sox in his professional debut, a 12-6 loss. Hein Robb collected his second win on the season for the Twins. Grabe and Basto both collected two RBIs in the game. Walker led the Twins going 3-5 with four RBIs and a homer.

The Sox will take on the 27-12 Twins tomorrow, July 30. First pitch set is for 7 p.m.
