Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol Sox drew first blood in Greeneville last night to take the lead 2-0, but eventually lost 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning in a well-played game by both teams. The game was scoreless through the first four innings, when in the top of the fifth, the Sox plated two runs, Jake Brown scoring on a wild pitch, and Kale Kiser on a sacrifice fly from shortstop Nick Basto.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Greeneville scored five runs, two off of Sox starter Leopoldo Sanchez who had held the Astros scoreless for five innings, and three off reliever James Huddleson, who took a blown save, to take the lead.
The scrappy Bristol White Sox plated two more in the seventh as Eric Grabe and Cory Farris rounded the bases off of a two-RBI hit off Angel Rosario to pull to within one run. Grabe also scored the tying run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch strikeout of Cory Farris.
Bristol reliever Storm Throne took the loss as Greeneville scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth frame.
Sox third baseman Grabe had a career night at the plate going 4-4, with three singles and a double, a walk, and scored two of the team's five runs.
Tuesday will be an off night for the entire Appalachian League, and Bristol will return home for six games beginning on Wednesday night, with Christmas in July with Santa and Mrs. Claus visiting the ballpark.
