Bristol White Sox News Release
Rain has definitely not been a fan of the Bristol White Sox, as the Sox have had several of their games this past week postponed. On Sunday, the sun was finally out for what seemed like a first in days. The Sox hosted the visiting Greeneville Astros for a doubleheader for the first two game of the three game series.
In the first seven inning affair, the Astros struck first in the top of the first inning. Angel Ibanez singled and Brian Blasik followed through with another single. Ibanez later scored on a wild pitch and Blasik scored a two-run homer by Terrell Joyce to give the Astros a 3-0 lead.
The Sox came to the plate in the bottom of the first in which Courtney Hawkins doubled and later scored on an Alex Williams bloop single to make the score 3-1 after one inning of play. The Sox and Astros would go on play four scoreless innings until the top of the sixth.
In the top of the sixth inning Joyce hit his second home run on the night with a one out shot to left field. The Astros led 4-1 going into the seventh inning. Sox bats went silent in the bottom of the seventh as they fell victims to the Astros 4-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. Leyer picked up the loss for the Sox and Frederick Tiburcio collected the win for the Astros, as both pitchers went the distance for their respected teams.
In the second game of the doubleheader the Astros jumped out to a 2-0 early lead and didn't look back as they scored two more unanswered runs. The Astros defeated the Sox 4-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. Todd Kibby went the distance for the Sox and picked up the loss. Chris Lee earned the win for the Astros.
Courtney Hawkins went 2-6 with an RBI for the Sox in the doubleheader and Cory Farris collected a double on the day.
The Sox fell to 6-18 on the season and the Astros improved to 16-9. The Sox will be back in action tomorrow on Walgreens' Night against the Astros with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
