Windsor Spitfires News Release
He still can't believe it happened.
Phil Ball is officially the Southland Shootout Shooter - setting his sights on a $250,000 Grand Prize.
Southland Insurance announced today that the Tecumseh resident, Phil Ball has been randomly selected to participate in the March 12 Southland Shootout during the Spitfires' final season game at the WFCU Centre..
Standing 5' 8" and weighing in at 200 pounds, Ball says he "just couldn't believe it," when Southland President Stephen Savage phoned him with the news. "When [Stephen Savage] had called, I thought that maybe I'd won a secondary prize," says Ball. "I guess I couldn't believe it."
When asked what he would do if he wins the twenty (20) shots in twenty (20) second Shootout. Ball, 34, is taking a practical approach. For now he is looking at paying off his mortgage - but he may still be deciding what to do with the money he will be saving each month! He will get $100 for just walking onto the ice and then for each goal scored up to 19, he will pocket $250 (as will the local Raise-A-Reader campaign.) If he gets all 20, he walks away with a quarter of a million dollars.
Robin, Ball's wife, says Phil has been starting to prepare. "Phil has been thinking about putting a net up in the driveway [to practice] and has been walking around the house with his hockey stick for two days."
Stephen Savage says it's a great opportunity for Ball. "Southland is very excited for Phil and his family," says Savage. "Southland would like to see him do well on March 12. Every successful goal he scores will not only mean prize money for him, but will help the local Raise-a-Reader literacy campaign."
To win the 250K Grand Prize, Phil Ball must successfully shoot all twenty (20) pucks into the net within twenty (20) seconds. Should he fail to score twenty (20) successful goals in the time allotted, he will receive $250 for every successful goal scored or a $100 gift certificate to a major retailer, should he be unable to score any successful goals in the time allotted.
As an added bonus, Southland has generously offered to extend their $250 per puck (up to 19) to Canwest's local Raise-A Reader Program.
