South Texas Showboats Announce First Player Signings
September 23, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
San Antonio, TX. The ABA South Texas Showboats are proud to announce the first players to their expansion team that begins play in December.
Jason McNeil, former Judson High School player and a standout player and leading rebounder overseas in Japan.
Chris Woods, a local talent in San Antonio who played for Tech High School but never played college basketball, has tremendous defense, a great rebounder, can see the floor and has come out and shown that he can compete with anyone.
Leonard "Poodie" Brown, a point guard who was a standout at Judson High School in San Antonio and played in Mexico; a pest on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Kenny Wilson, a player who is a tremendous shooter who played at Boise State University; has a great basketball IQ, fantastic on both ends of the floor and very aggressive.
The Showboats are still looking at players at this time and begin their training camp this week without a full roster. The Showboats are offering FREE tryouts to some players 6'7" and above. "We believe our roster is guard oriented right now and would like to add some players to eliminate putting our players in a position where it takes them out of their game," said owner/coach Ben Mireles. "Outside of tryouts, the Showboats will begin the season with a small lineup if necessary and will be ready for the challenge if it comes down to it. We know by being an expansion team, we are not being focused on too much. It is good for us to have some solid players here and be able to compete and have a chance to win games."
