Matrix introduce fundraising initiative
September 23, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Montreal Matrix News Release
On July 11th 2008 a unique charity event took place at the Concordia University EV Fitness Centre located at the Sir George William Campus. Hosted and created by Patrick Donovan, a former Concordia Stinger linebacker, the event was set up to recruit various companies to financially donate according to the number of repetitions of 225lbs Donovan would bench press. The businesses signed a contract agreeing to put forth a certain amount of money with a maximum contribution of $200 each for 40 or more full reps in exchange for one month of free publicity by displaying the companies' logo at the fitness centre. A simple plan with a significant outcome!
The recipient of the donations was The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation. The event proved to be a success with a total donation of $$.
The Matrix organization will continue to collaborate with and host their own similar events as the team's values reflect the necessity as well as the enjoyment of working hand-in-hand with the community, particularly when it comes down to helping children in need.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
