South Coast League releases 2008 regular season schedule

Published on February 24, 2008 under South Coast League (SCL) News Release

(Macon, GA) The South Coast League of Professional Baseball released today the schedule for the 2008 season. The season and excitement begins on Thursday, May 15, with the Aiken Foxhounds visiting the Anderson Joes and the South Georgia Peanuts opening up their title defense at the Macon Music. The Peanuts and Foxhounds will both make their home debuts this season on May 22. The 84-game season, shortened by six games from last year, will run from mid-May through mid-August.

The Charlotte County Redfish and the new expansion team from Jackson (MS) will not compete in 2008 but will resume action on the field in 2009.

Fans in central Georgia should take note of a league first and a unique scenario which involves a day/night, split location doubleheader. On Saturday, June 14, the South Georgia Peanuts will host archrival Macon during the day game. The teams will then travel north where the teams will entertain the Macon fans during the nightcap.

The 2008 post-season will also feature a new design. Last year's championship featured the first half champions versus the second half champions, in a best-of-three format. This year, each team will have a shot of winning the post season title. There will be a four team, double-elimination tournament, with seeds based on records from the regular season. All games for the tournament will be played in Macon.
