South Bay Lakers News Release
EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers played their sixteenth game against the Stockton Kings as they won, 122-117, on Saturday night. Bryce Hamilton led the Lakers (12-4) in scoring with 30 points. Trey Burke paced the Kings (7-9), scoring 19 points.
The first frame was tightly contested between these familiar foes. Bryce Hamilton started off hot with nine first quarter points. NBA veteran, Trey Burke, led the Kings with nine points of his own. An 11-5 run from the Kings to end the quarter gave them an eight-point cushion. South Bay trailed after one, 29-37. The second period was back and forth and incredibly frenetic. The Lakers got the lead down to four early in the second quarter behind early buckets from Hamilton, the Kings quickly responded with a 9-0 run to put their lead back up to 13, followed by a 19-10 run to close the quarter from South Bay to go into the half trailing 62-64. Hamilton led the Lakers with 17 points in the half, while Stockton center Chance Comanche put up 16 through two quarters of play.
Six quick Hamilton points seemed to continue the momentum the Lakers built into the third quarter, however, Stockton continued to match South Bay bucket for bucket. South Bay cut the lead down to one, then on three straight possessions with the score at 82-83, South Bay missed three layups on three straight possessions. Jeriah Horne then hit a three-point shot to put the Kings back up four. South Bay trailed going into the final period, 86-96.
South Bay once again cut the lead down to one during a 18-9 fourth quarter run. L.J. Figueroa was called for an offensive foul on a floating shot, but a smart challenge by the coaching staff reversed the charge into a defensive foul, plus the basket which put the Lakers up two. After finally getting over the hump, South Bay never gave up the lead again. The Lakers closed the game out, 122-117.
Hamilton put together a final line of 30 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Figueroa added 26 points and six rebounds, while Scotty Pippen Jr. contributed 22 points off the bench, including an emphatic dunk in the fourth quarter. For the Kings, Trey Burke put up 19 points and six assists. Chance Comanche and Jordan Ford finished with 18 and 16 points respectively.
South Bay will travel to Las Vegas for the NBA G League Showcase Cup Tournament. Their first game will be the quarterfinal against the Maine Celtics on Monday, December 19, at 2:00pm. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
