Sounders FC to Wear Parley Kits on April 22 against Minnesota United

April 10, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release

SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC today announced that the club is scheduled to wear specially designed adidas Parley kits on Sunday, April 22 as the team hosts Minnesota United FC in a nationally televised match on ESPN.

Fans may recall the Parley initiative from last season, where Seattle was one of four MLS teams selected to participate in the unique collaboration between adidas, Major League Soccer and environmental network Parley for the Oceans, designed to raise awareness around the harmful impact of marine plastic pollution. Following the success of the Parley kits in 2017, the program has been expanded in 2018 to include all MLS clubs, in conjunction with MLS WORKS Greener Goals and the league-wide effort to highlight MLS' commitment to environmental sustainability.

The kits are created from technical yarns containing Parley Ocean Plastic - upcycled marine plastic that has been reworked into fibers that are repurposed for apparel. Each jersey is composed of roughly 13 bottles-worth of recycled plastic. Along with the unique fabric, the jerseys feature special neck-tape reading "For the Oceans," to commemorate the unique repurposing process that helped create the jerseys from marine plastic debris.

The 2018 edition of the jerseys comes in two colorways - non-dye and carbon - and all MLS clubs have been assigned one of these two colorways, which are being worn over Earth Day weekend in Week 8 matches. The Rave Green are donning the white, non-dye Parley jerseys in their match against Minnesota on April 22, while the Loons are wearing the darker carbon kits.

A limited number of 2018 Sounders FC adidas Parley jerseys are available for purchase through MLSstore.com, adidas and local Sounders FC Pro Shops.
