Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that it has acquired $175,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $175,000 in 2024 GAM from Charlotte FC in exchange for a two 2023 International Roster Slots. The move brings Seattle's number of 2023 International Roster Slots to five as the team continues its 2023 preseason preparations.
Seattle defender Abdoulaye Cissoko has received his U.S. Green Card, granting him permanent resident status in the United States, effective immediately. With the resident status, Cissoko no longer occupies an International Roster Slot on the club's roster.
Sounders FC now has three open International Roster Slots heading into the 2023 season, with two current international players on the roster: Léo Chú and Yeimar Gómez Andrade.
Cissoko, 23, made 12 appearances across all competitions in 2022, giving him 28 since joining the First Team in 2021. Cissoko has also appeared in 31 matches for Tacoma Defiance since 2020, finishing third on the team with six regular season goals last year.
Sounders FC kicks off the competitive calendar at the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco in early February. Following this morning's official FIFA draw, Seattle is set to play the winner of Auckland City and Al Ahly SC in the Second Round on February 4. The Rave Green's 2023 MLS campaign begins at home on February 26 vs. the Colorado Rapids.
