
Sounders Battle Chivas USA Sunday at Qwest Field

The 2005 USL First Division Champion Seattle Sounders face Major League Soccer side Chivas USA and former Sounders Preston Burpo and Brent Whitfield this Sunday, May 7th at Qwest Field, 6pm. Burpo and Whitfield played vital roles in the Sounders 2005 championship run, and both have signed with Chivas USA for the 2006 season. Chivas USA heads to Seattle with a roster filled with international talent, including World Cup bound Mexican National Team member Juan Francisco Palencia.
"We are certainly excited to welcome Preston and Brent back to Seattle," said Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. "They deserve this opportunity to showcase their talents at the next level, and we wish them the best. I will always fondly remember the 2005 season."
The Sounders and Chivas USA square off at 6pm. Tickets start at $12 and are available online at www.seattlesounders.net.
The Sounders and Comcast are teaming up to re-broadcast the Chivas USA match to Comcast subscribers through ON DEMAND; video will be available beginning May 9th.
Sounders Face Another Weekend of Back-to-Back Exhibition Matches
Once again the Sounders play two exhibition matches in back to back days this weekend. On Saturday May 6th at Mt. Vernon High School, the Sounders face the San Carlos All-Stars, a select team from a local Hispanic soccer league. Kickoff for the match in Mt. Vernon is 6pm. Prior to the exhibition match the Sounders will host a youth soccer clinic starting at 4pm at the stadium.
Sunday?s match against Chivas USA wraps up a weekend of Cinco de Mayo festivities supported by the Washington State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (WSHCC). The WSHCC has joined the Sounders this season as a Community Partner.
Rookie Midfielder Rivera Out 2-4 Weeks With Injury
New Sounder Midfielder Santa Maria Rivera will miss the next two to four weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered in last Sunday?s match against his former team, Seattle University. In the 62nd minute, Rivera was moving the ball down the left sideline when he suddenly hit the turf; he immediately grabbed his left hamstring. Upon further evaluation, Rivera could be ready to play as early as May 20th against the Toronto Lynx at Qwest Field.

The newest edition of the weekly radio show, ?The Sounders Insider? is available online at www.seattlesounders.net. Start With Chivas USA Match This Sunday
The 2005 USL First Division Champion Seattle Sounders and Comcast Cable announced the renewal of their partnership to air Sounders home games on Comcast ON DEMAND in 2006.
The first home games available ON DEMAND will be Sunday?s match against MLS?s Chivas USA on Sunday, May 7th, followed by the Sounders regular season home opener match against the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, May 13th. Comcast will broadcast each 2006 Sounders home match this season through ON DEMAND.
