Sounders Announce First Round Home Playoff Date

(Seattle, WA) - The Seattle Sounders today announced their first round HOME playoff date as Sunday, September 16th. The match will take place at Qwest Field with kick off set for 6:00 PM. Tickets for the September 16th match are on sale now for season ticket holders. Public on sale begins on Saturday at 10:00 AM through Ticketmaster.com or by calling 206 628-0888. Prices are $13 for general admission seating and $18 for reserved.

As the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division season winds down this weekend, the Sounders will await results from the next several matches to see who their first round opponent will be. Check seattlesounders.net for up to date possibilities.

Post Season Information

Early bird season ticket purchases received playoff tickets as part of their season ticket package. If you have any questions, call the Sounders ticket office at 206 622-3415.

Flex packages and youth passes will not be accepted for any playoff matches.

Eight USL first division teams will qualify for post-season play. The # 1 seed plays the #8 seed; the # 2 seed plays the # 7 seed...

Two wins in their final two matches assure the Sounders a place at the top of the league table. The final two matches are Sept 6 vs. the California Victory and Sept 9 @ Minnesota.

The playoff format is a two-game, home and home, aggregately scored series. The higher seeded team has the right to choose which date to play at home.

The first game of the Sounders initial playoff series will more than likely take place on Friday, September 14th.

The second round of playoffs will take place over the weekend of September 21st with most matches occurring on September 21st and 23rd.

The USL First Division Championship is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th. The higher of the two seeds remaining will have the right of first refusal to host the Championship game.

The Sounders played in back to back Championship games during the 2004 (loss to Montreal Impact) and 2005 (win over Richmond Kickers) seasons. The Sounders also won the Championship in 1995.
