Sound Making Noise in the Offseason
May 16, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release
Patchogue, NY- The Strong Island Sound may have completed their 2006-07 season in the second round of the ABA playoffs at Vermont. Another successful season on the court has led to more success away from the hardwood.
Sound head coach Dytanya Mixson and guard Chris Grant were at Mount Elementary School in Stony Brook on May 11th for Career Day. Role playing for the students to show them what happens when a professional athlete becomes injured, with actual physical therapists and orthopedics present, made for an interesting day.
On May 12th, the second part of the prior week's promotion took place at Costco of Holbrook with the 'Shoot with the Pros' fundraiser for Schneider Children's Hospital and was another success. Our mascot, Shayken Bayke, was on hand along with Sound assistant coach Greg Cerillo and guard Greg Cerillo, Jr. The entire Sound organization would like to thank Costco and Schneider's for allowing us to be a part of this special event.
The Sound have more appearances and events planned in the near future. Be sure to see where Shayken Bayke and the rest of the team will be next by logging onto www.strongislandsound.com and www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
