May 16, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
Kevin Keathley has been hired as the top assistant For the Rio Grande Silverados of the American Basketball Association (ABA).
Coach Keathley is a former 2005 ABA Coach of the Year that guided the Kentucky Colonels to 21-12 record and a second round playoff appearance. Keathley is no stranger to success on the pro ranks, in 2003 he helped lead the Louisville Eagles to the UPBL Championship as the Associate Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations.
Before coaching professionally, Keathley spent four seasons coaching on the Collegiate ranks where he became recognized as a hardworking, dedicated individual that worked extremely hard on the recruiting trail.
Coach Keathley will be reuniting with coach Steve Tucker who is the head coach of the Silverados. Keathley worked as Tucker's top assistant coach during the 1999-2000 campaign at Hazard Community College in Hazard, KY. Keathley had this to say about working with Tucker again,"I was very fortunate to work with coach Tucker during my formative years as a basketball coach. I learned a great deal from him and consider him a mentor of mine. There have been several occasions that we have came close to working together again, but it just wasn't meant to be until now. Everything just fell into place this time, and I couldn't be more excited to have this opportunity."
"In coach Kevin Keathley you get the entire package. You get an old school coach with youthful exuberance! Kevin has great work ethic and has a great mind for the game of basketball. His abilities are diverse and he will be a tremendous help to what we want to do with our Silverados Professional Basketball Franchise. I'm very excited about working with Coach K again!" states Tucker.
In 2006, Keathley was touted as one of the top ten young coaches in America by Probasketballnews.com. Keathley went on to say, "I believe the Silverados have assembled the best coaching staff in the ABA. It will be an exciting year for the Silverados fans!"
Kevin Keathley is 29 years old and currently resides in Louisville, KY.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
