December 29, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release
Patchogue, NY, December 29, 2006 - As the holidays approached, the Strong Island Sound recently gift wrapped two victories for their fans to pull their record in the American Basketball Association to 10-6. Before the largest home crowd of the year, the Sound used a solid fourth quarter to pull away from the visiting Maryland Nighthawks with a 111-101 win. The following night, the Sound played stifling defense en route to a 98-83 victory over the Quebec City Kebs.
As he has been all season, rookie Gregory Plummer was the offensive star of both games, scoring 25 points in each contest. John "Mookie" Thomas added a spark to the Sound team, scoring 20 points against the Nighthawks and 18 versus the Kebs. Meanwhile, Darren "DP" Phillip dazzled the crowd with several pinpoint passes to thwart the Kebs and garnered 11 rebounds to help polish off Maryland.
"It was great to see such tremendous support for our team during the recent homestand," stated Darren Cioffi, co-owner of the Sound. "The fans in attendance were treated to an entertaining game in an intimate setting unlike most sporting events. We hope basketball fans and families across Long Island continue to come out and enjoy the fun atmosphere and competitive games, as we offer extremely attractive and affordable ticket packages throughout the year."
The Sound's next home game is Saturday, January 6th at 7pm against the Vermont Frostheaves. Purchase Tickets online at www.strongislandsound.com
