April 10, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (April 10, 2012) - The Arena Football League has announced that Soul quarterback Dan Raudabaugh (6'3, 220, Miami (OH)) has been named the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week and linebacker Joe Goosby (6'1, 235, Tulane) has been named the Riddell Co-Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in the record-setting, 92-42, victory against the Georgia Force on Saturday, April 7.
"Both of these players are deserving of their awards. I'm happy for them to be recognized by the League," said Soul head coach Doug Plank. "Dan's been a leader for this team all season. His consistency and reliability can't be questioned. Each week he performs at a high level and is a big reason for our success."
Raudabaugh came out hot against the Force, completing 16-of-20 passes for 272 yards and six touchdowns without throwing any interceptions. He finished the day completing 80 percent of his passes and a quarterback rating of 158.3.
The Soul's signal caller has been a model of consistency so far in 2012. In the season opener at New Orleans, Raudabaugh completed 22-of-30 passes for 310 yards and seven touchdowns. Against the Power, he threw another seven touchdowns as he completed 19-of-29 passes for 207 yards as he orchestrated an offensive performance that set a then-record for the most points scored in team history. The following week, Raudabaugh threw six more touchdowns in a losing effort against Cleveland.
Heading into Week 6, Raudabaugh ranks No. 1 in the Arena Football League for pass yards per attempt (9.8), No. 2 passing efficiency (130.9), pass yards per completion (13.5), completion percentage (72.2), No. 9 in the league for passing yards per game (263.5) and passing yards (1054), and No. 5 in passing touchdowns (26).
"Joe had a great game this past week. We challenged the team after the Cleveland game and he really stepped up on the field," said Soul head coach Doug Plank. "His effort is just an example of what our defense did as a whole in Georgia. We got after the quarterback and forced turnovers. Joe did a great job returning two of them to the end zone."
Goosby had a field day against Georgia's offensive unit. He finished the day with three solo tackles and picked off Force quarterback R.J. Archer twice. Goosby returned both interceptions for touchdowns and a total of 12 yards. The first interception came on the Force's first offensive drive with 12:50 remaining in the opening quarter. Goosby returned the pick five yards for a touchdown. With 1:33 remaining in the first half, Goosby snagged his second interception, returning it seven yards for another touchdown. The play gave Goosby three interceptions on the season, all of which have been returned for touchdowns.
Goosby's three interceptions have him tied for No. 5 in the league and No. 8 for interception return yards (49). He leads the Soul in both categories. Through four games, Goosby has compiled 19.0 total tackles, which ranks him at No. 2 on the team. Goosby has also broken up two passes, recovered a fumble, and forced a fumble.
The Philadelphia Soul (3-1) return home to the Wells Fargo Center after drubbing the Georgia Force 92-42 on the road. The Soul are now in a two-way tie for first in their division as they prepare to take on the San Jose SaberCats (3-1). A win allows the Soul to even the all-time series with San Jose at 3-3. The game marks the first time the series will take place in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Wells Fargo Center.
The game can be heard on 950 ESPN Radio, with play-by-play announcer Matt Martucci and color commentator Barrett Brooks. A live stream of the game will be available to fans through www.ustream.tv/philadelphiasoul
