Philadelphia Soul News Release
SOUL SUFFER LAST-SECOND DEFEAT TO BRIGADE
The Soul fell to 10-3 as an errant snap kept the Soul out of the end zone with Philadelphia trailing 54-47 to Kansas City as time expired on Thursday. The loss was the first by the Soul at home, and coupled with a win by Dallas pushes the Soul out of first place in the Eastern Division. The loss also meant the Soul failed to clinch a playoff spot.
SOUL ENTER MUCH NEEDED BYE WEEK
The Soul enter their bye week losing three of their last four games, including two out of three games over an 11-day period. Now the Soul are off until their match-up in Dallas against the first-place Desperados. The first meeting between Philadelphia and Dallas ended favorably for the Soul. Eddie Moten picked off three passes leading a strong defensive effort in a 57-28 victory in Philadelphia.
JACKSON CONTINUES ON
Chris "Money" Jackson continues to live up to his nickname for the Soul. Entering Thursday's game against the Kansas City Brigade, Jackson had Soul single-season records for points (234) and touchdowns (39). Jackson's 11-reception, 130-yard, 3-TD effort in the Brigade game makes him the Soul single-season record holder for receptions (112, passing Steve Smith's 107 receptions in 2005) and leaves him 83 receiving yards from passing Charles Pauley (1,473 yards in 2007) for the single-season mark.
SOUL RELEASE QB GAUNTT
The Soul announced on Friday, May 23, that backup quarterback Glen Gauntt was released. Gauntt was signed by the Soul on May 9, two days after starting quarterback Tony Graziani was placed on the Injured Reserve list. Gauntt spent the last three games behind Matt D'Orazio, only seeing action for one play, a hand-off, against Columbus.
