Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul acquired defensive specialist Calvin Coleman from the New Orleans VooDoo in exchange for future considerations, the team announced today.

To make room for Coleman on the roster, the Soul waived DS Arkee Thompson.

Coleman, (5-10, 181, Montana) in his second year in the Arena Football league, joined the VooDoo in 2003 and recorded 54.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and six passes break-ups. His four interceptions ranked eighth in the AFL and three forced fumbles were sixth most.

A solid addition to the Soul's 10th-ranked defense, Coleman has recorded seven tackles, three assists and two interceptions in six games with the VooDoo this season.

Prior to his AFL career, Coleman played with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in 2003. He was signed as a rookie free agent by the New York Giants and spent the 2002 training camp with the team before being waived.

Thompson, who was signed by the Soul in 2004 as a free agent, had recorded 31 tackles and two interceptions this season.

The Soul travel to San Jose to take on the defending champion SaberCats tomorrow night. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. (ET) and can be heard live on Philadelphia's News Talk WNTP 990 am and via the internet at www.philadelphiasoul.com. The game will be broadcast tape delayed by Comcast SportsNet at 2 a.m. on Saturday again at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Soul return to the Wachovia Center on Sunday March 20th, when they host the Tampa Bay Storm. Tickets for the game are still available.
