Soul set to host undefeated Blast on Friday

The Matchup

Friday, December 21 vs. Baltimore Blast - 7:30 p.m. (CST)

The Chicago Soul (2-8) are set to meet the Baltimore Blast (9-0) for the third time this season. The two squads first met on November 3 in Baltimore, where the Soul picked up their first loss of the season. Chicago saw valiant efforts from Carlos "Chlie" Farias that night as he put on a nine-point performance that gave the Soul an early 7-2 edge over the Blast. However, Baltimore managed to assemble a rally to defeat the new MISL franchise 23-13.

The Soul returned to Baltimore on November 9 in hopes of avenging their first loss, but fell 17-9 to the Blast after a flat first half and a void left by five injured players.

Chicago will now look to beat the unbeaten and pick up its first victory at home on Friday when the Blast come to town. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT at the Sears Centre Arena.

On the Radar

Carlos Muñoz continues to make an impression in the league in his rookie season as he holds onto ninth place on the MISL scoring leader board with 24 points. Bato Radoncic is right behind him with 22 points, while Christian Meza, Matthew Stewart and Carlos Farias are not too far behind with 21, 18 and 15, respectively.

Defensively, the Soul will turn to Roberto Gallo for a boost. Gallo currently has 14 blocks on the season.

The Competition

The undefeated Blast, who currently sit in first place in league standings, have seen outstanding performances from new goalkeepers Troy Hernandez (4-0 on the season) and William Vanzela (5-0). The team is led by Machel Millwood, Baltimore's longest-tenured player, who has 30 points. Tony Donatelli follows with 27 points and Max Ferdinand has 25 points. Lucio Gonzaga (18 points), Mike Lookingland (16) and Neto (15 points) also rank among the league's top 25 point scorers. Lookingland and Gonzaga were named to this week's MISL Team of the Week after their performance in Baltimore's 15-9 win over Missouri.
