Soul set to begin training camp February 7

PHILADELPHIA - In preparation for their fourth season of play in the 21-year-old Arena Football League, the Philadelphia Soul will open training camp on Wednesday, February 7.

All practice sessions will be held at the Novacare Complex in Philadelphia. (Schedule Listed Below)

"I am extremely excited about the 37 man roster we have coming to training camp with a nice mix of veterans and rookies," head coach Bret Munsey said. "It should be a competitive camp and we look forward to working with the changes the League has implemented."

Training camp, which features a controlled practice against the New York Dragons at the Wachovia Spectrum on Wednesday, February 21, will conclude on Friday, February 23. The Soul roster, which currently consists of 37 players, will be trimmed to the AFL's regular-season limit of 24 on Monday, February 26.

The 2007 season kicks off on for the Soul on Friday, March 9 at 8:00 p.m. in Nashville against the Kats. Their first home contest will be on Thursday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m. when the Soul host the Colorado Crush at the Wachovia Center.

Philadelphia is bringing in 26 newcomers, including 21 AFL rookies, to compete in training camp for roster spots with 11 returnees. Among the familiar faces are DB Mike Brown, QB Tony Graziani and WR/LB Sean Scott. Brown played in 15 games and returned 36 kicks for 746 yards and two touchdowns, being named Offensive Player of the Game twice, Ironman of the Game three times and the League's All Ironman team. Graziani played in 12 games completing 232 of 389 passes for 2989 yards with 41 touchdowns. He was named Offensive Player of the Game four times. Scott played in 16 games tallying 44.5 total tackles, four tackles for losses, one sack, five pass break ups and two fumble recoveries. He received Ironman of the Game honors five times and was named Offensive Player of the Game once.

The Soul finished last season with a regular season record of 9-7 and reached the post season for the first time in franchise history. They made it out of the first round of the playoffs before losing to the Orlando Predators in the National Conference Divisional Round.

New to the Soul roster are AFL veterans LB Idris Price and QB Juston Wood. Price enters his fourth AFL season with the Soul after playing three seasons for the Orlando Predators. While in Orlando, he carried the ball 81 times for 257 yards with 12 touchdowns. Wood played in seven games and completed 40-of-58 passes for 382 yards with five touchdowns despite four interceptions last season with the New York Dragons.
