Soul Look to Remain Undefeated While Hosting Unbeaten Desperados in Clash of League's Best
April 25, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
WHAT: The Philadelphia Soul will pursue a ninth consecutive victory of the season against the Dallas Desperados (7-0) in what has been labeled the "Broad Street Brawl" at the Wachovia Spectrum on Monday, April 28 at 8:00 p.m. (et). The Philadelphia Soul boast the top scoring offense in the AFL averaging 66.0 ppg while the Dallas Desperados have the top scoring defense at 42.7 ppg. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2, and can be heard live on radio locally on 950 ESPN and on the web at www.950ESPN.com.
The Soul have won their first eight games despite an injury to their star quarterback Tony Graziani in Week 3. Graziani returned last week against the Columbus Destroyers to throw 3 touchdown passes, but reinjured his knee on the third touchdown pass. The Soul once again called on Matt D'Orazio to fill in and he stepped up, as he has been all season, throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Soul to a 76-55 victory over the Destroyers. Graziani is questionable for this week's game
The much anticipated battle of the unbeatens this Monday night at the Spectrum is the featured attraction on ESPN2. The game also serves as the culmination of AFL V week in which the Arena Football League, ESPN, and the V Foundation for Cancer Research have teamed up to raise money for cancer research in honor of the late college basketball coach Jim Valvano.
Philadelphia will look to avenge being swept by Dallas in the 2007 season and improve to 9-0. This game marks the latest meeting by two undefeated teams in an AFL season, the previous mark was set in 1996 when the Anaheim Piranhas (7-0), then owned by AFL Commissioner David Baker, lost to the Tampa Bay Storm (6-0).
