Chicago Soul FC News Release
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Soul (3-8) snapped their four-game losing streak by handing the previously undefeated Baltimore Blast (9-1) their first loss of the season. The Soul were led offensively by Eric Lukin (five points), Ephraim Beard (four points), and Carlos Muñoz (three points).
The Soul came out with guns blazing, getting off to a 10-0 lead after a brilliant first quarter performance. Ephraim Beard got the ball rolling for Chicago as he found the back of the net at the 2:48 mark. Eric Lukin followed up minutes later, firing from the three-point range to make it a 5-0 Chicago lead. Beard struck again at 8:28 to extend the Soul's lead to 7-0 over the Blast. Carlos Muñoz made it a 10-point advantage when he blasted a three-pointer past Baltimore goalkeeper William Vanzela on a restart opportunity.
The Blast finally managed to put an end to the Soul's scoring streak when Pat Healey netted in Baltimore's first of the night in the closing minutes of the first quarter to make it a 10-2 game.
The Blast continued to build momentum in the second quarter, seeing goals from Adriano Dos Santos and Audeto Neto and cutting the Soul's lead to 10-6 by halftime.
The Soul tried to swing the momentum back in their favor in the second half as Lukin scored his second goal of the night four minutes into the third quarter. The Blast came up with a response on the other end with a goal by J.T. Noone, making it 12-8 heading into the final period of play.
The Blast managed to close the gap to 12-10 in the fourth when Healey scored once again with two minutes remaining in the game, but the Soul, getting some critical defensive stops, managed to hold on to claim their first victory at home.
"I'm very proud of these guys," Soul Head Coach Novi Marojevic said of his squad's performance. "They put in a lot of effort and played very well as a team. I saw great improvement in them. They out-performed the best team in the league, and I couldn't be happier for them."
The Soul will now prepare to host the Missouri Comets on Friday, December 28 at the Sears Centre Arena. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CT. For ticket information, call (224) 699-4110.
