December 21, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

WICHITA, Kan. -The Wichita Wings earned their first win against the Missouri Comets this season on Friday in Hartman Arena with a 10-6 victory. Wichita showed a well-rounded attack led by Geison who topped all scorers accumulating two goals, while Miguel Ferrer, Kareem Yearwood, and Freddy Moojen chipped in a goal each to win the match.

By the start of the game it was obvious the rivalry between Wichita and Missouri picked up right where it left off, as the Wings came out on fire determined to earn their first win against the Comets this season. Wichita shut out the Comets in the first quarter with two back to back goals from Miguel Ferrer and Kareem Yearwood to put the Wings up, 4-0. The only action Missouri produced was a penalty on Brian Harris that handed the Wings a power play advantage heading into the second period.

In the second quarter, the Comets found themselves repeatedly scrambling on defense against an aggressive Wings' offense. Sanaldo came up with a big save half way through the quarter to hold the Comets scoreless. Six minutes before the end of the half, an assist from Miguel Ferrer would allow Geison a goal off a header to put the Wings up 6-0. Missouri's star forward, Byron Alvarez, answered back late in the quarter with a two-pointer to put the Comets on the board making the score 2-6, Wings. Missouri gained another penalty from Rodriguez to hand Wichita a power play just before the end of the half, but they would not be able to convert any of their chances before time expired.

Missouri came out of halftime more aggressive by pressing high up in Wichita's defensive third of the field, but a stout Wings defense, led by critical saves from Sanaldo, denied all of the Comets' attacking opportunities. Assadapour finally broke through the Wings defense to cut into their lead with only eight seconds left in the quarter to leave the score 6-4 in favor of the Wings going into the final period.

Wichita continued to dominate on both ends of the ball in the final quarter. Freddy Moojen headed home a goal to make the score 8-4. A foul by Comets defender, Cristiano, would give the Wings a two minute man advantage with only three minutes left in the game. After a stellar attacking effort by Chris Lemons, Geison would head home a Lemons pass off the boards to clinch a 10-4 Wings victory over the Comets.

The Wings will host a double header next weekend on December 28 and 29 when they play the Syracuse Silver Knights Friday and the Chicago Soul Saturday, both with game times of 7:35 p.m. To purchase tickets for next weekend's matches, call 316.978.3999 or visit www.wichitawingsindoorsoccer.com.
