Philadelphia Soul News Release
WHAT: The Philadelphia Soul (10-2) look to clinch a playoff berth for the third straight season Thursday when they take on the Kansas City Brigade (2-9) at the Wachovia Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be heard on 950 ESPN Philadelphia. The game will also be streamed live on-line at www.950ESPN.com.
Philadelphia will try to win their second straight game after defeating the Columbus Destroyers (2-9) last Saturday, 51-43. The Soul are currently first place in the Eastern Division holding a half game lead over the Dallas Desperados. With only four games remaining, Philadelphia strives to finish the regular season strong and carry their winning momentum into the playoffs.
The Soul, who had to overcome the hurdle of six injured starters during last week's game, recorded impressive stats against the Destroyers. Quarterback Matt D'Orazio finished the game 19-of-23 passes for 284 yards and seven touchdowns. Wide receiver Chris Jackson hit another major milestone as his three touchdown receptions brought his lifetime number to 305 and moved him into second place on the AFL's all time list. Wide receiver Larry Brackins recorded eight catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Thursday night's game versus Kansas City marks the first time the teams will meet this season and third in the teams' histories. Philadelphia will be seeking revenge from last season when the Brigade came into the Wachovia Center and defeated the Soul, 53-41. Philadelphia is 1-1 all time against Kansas City.
This season, the Soul have won all six of their home games at the Wachovia Complex.
