Soo Eagles Add Seasoned Scout to Staff
December 9, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Soo Eagles News Release
Doug Bailey is shifting his seasoned scouting services to the Soo Eagles.
ÃâÃÂ
Bailey, who resides in the Grand Blanc area of Michigan, joins an Eagles recruiting staff that is under the direction of general manager-coach Bruno Bragagnolo and chief scout Tom Farnquist and also includes regional scouts Paul Andary and John Waisanen.
ÃâÃÂ
Bailey joins the Eagles from North American Hockey League rival Corpus Christi IceRays.
ÃâÃÂ
Prior to working for Corpus Christi, Bailey had a six-year run as chief scout and director of player personnel with the Flint Jr. Generals of the North American 3 Hockey League.
ÃâÃÂ
A travel team coach with some 20 years experience, Bailey's adult involvement in the game dates back to the 1970s when he was the official scorer for the minor-pro Flint Generals of the erstwhile International Hockey League.
ÃâÃÂ
Both Bragagnolo and Farnquist consider it a major acquisition to have Bailey on board with the Eagles.
ÃâÃÂ
"Doug is very well-respected in the hockey world," Bragagnolo began. "When Tommy Farnquist told me that Doug was available and interested in joining our staff, it was an easy decision as far as I was concerned. We already had an outstanding and hardworking scouting staffÃâàand we've upgraded it by adding Doug.
ÃâÃÂ
"Scouting isn't an easy job," Bragagnolo continued. "These guys give up a lot of their free time at night, on weekends and even during the summer months, scouting games, tournaments and camps. We're fortunate to have guys like Tommy, Paul, John and now Doug with us."ÃâàÃâÃÂ
ÃâÃÂ
Farnquist knows what the Eagles are getting in the venerable Bailey.
ÃâÃÂ
"Doug and I have been friends for several years and I look forward to working with him," said the tireless Farnquist. "Doug will be a great asset to our team because we both think very similar when it comes to players."
