Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signings of right-handed pitcher Daniel Sattler and left-handed pitcher T.J. Chism.
Sattler was acquired in a trade with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association. He has experience in the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Minnesota Twins organizations.
Sattler has a season of Triple-A experience and played at the Double-A level for four seasons.
He split the 2014 season in the American Association with St. Paul and Wichita and finished with a combined record of 3-4, a 1.84 ERA, and 60 strikeouts in 44.0 innings pitched in 40 games.
Sattler has a career 3.28 ERA and 357 strikeouts in 342.2 innings pitched in 246 games.
"Daniel will be a big part of the bullpen this season. He finished very strong last season as the closer with the Wichita Wingnuts, who went on to win their league's championship. He has a live arm and lots of experience that will add nicely to our bullpen," said Jon Hunton, the Director of Player Personnel of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
Chism has spent his entire career with the New York Mets before signing with the Somerset Patriots for this season, reaching the Double-A level in 2014.
Chism has been used as a reliever throughout his career, mostly at the Single-A level. He recorded 19 saves in 2012 and 20 in 2013 for Savannah and St. Lucie.
He has a minor league career 14-11 record, a 2.78 ERA, 49 saves, and 225 strikeouts in 236.0 innings pitched in 201 games.
"We are really looking forward to getting TJ into our camp. He is a young lefty that has put up very good numbers in the minor leagues. TJ has not had the opportunity to pitch at the higher levels, but I feel like his pitching IQ will allow him to have success in our league. He seems to have a great feel for what he is trying to do to the hitters," said Brett Jodie, Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
