Solid Pitching Leads M-Braves to 6-2 Victory

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves pitchers J.R. Graham and Greg Ross carried a perfect game into the sixth inning before allowing a base hit Sunday evening at Trustmark Park. The Braves allowed just four hits en route to a 6-2 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Mississippi (20-17, 59-47) scored six run on eight hits while Pensacola (14-23, 45-62) managed two runs via the long ball. Rich Poythress, Daniel Castro and Mycal Jones each drove in two runs apiece for the Braves. Cedric Hunter and Castro collected multi-hit games with two hits at the plate.

As planned, Graham started and worked two hitless frames for the Braves before giving way to Ross. Ross (4-1) tossed five innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits and a homer. He struck out three and picked up the win.

The M-Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Kyle Kubitza and Hunter drew back-to-back walks to lead off the frame. A double steal allowed both runners to advance before Castro's two-run triple to center field. Jones then ripped a RBI-double to right.

Braves pitching carried a perfect game into the sixth, retiring 16 consecutive batters before Brodie Greene singled with one out. Ryan Wright then blasted a two-run home run into the Braves bullpen, making it a 3-2 game.

The M-Braves added three more in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 6-2 contest. Kyle Wren and Hunter both reached on singles. After a double steal, Poythress delivered a two-run double to center field. He moved to third on a sacrifice fly and then scored on Jones' sacrifice fly.

Ian Thomas worked a hitless eighth and Ryan Kelly retired his three batters in the ninth to finish the game. Daniel Corcino (9-9) gave up three earned runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out three batters in 3.1 innings.
