Corpus Christi, Texas - The Sod Poodles earned their third shutout win of 2019 on Sunday afternoon at Whataburger Field, blanking the Corpus Christi Hooks 6-0 to split the road series.

After starter Adrian Morejon went two scoreless innings, right-hander Emmanuel Ramirez was brilliant in six scoreless frames for the win. Ramirez allowed just four hits and struck out seven, while seeing his ERA dip down to 3.84.

Ramirez ranks eighth in the Texas League in ERA and is tied for second in wins (5). He ranks first in the circuit in opponents' batting average (.218) and is third in WHIP (1.10).

Amarillo got two early runs off Corpus Christi lefty Brett Adcock for the first inning. Peter Van Gansen led off the ballgame with a double and would score on a grounder back to the mound that Adcock couldn't handle cleanly and then threw away. Owen Miller then brought Castillo home on. Sacrifice fly.

The Sod Poodles got four more runs in the third. Edward Olivares collected a two-run single while Luis Torrens doubled a run in. Kyle Overstreet capped the frame with a sac fly to give Amarillo a 6-0 lead.

Hooks righties Layne Henderson and Enoli Paredes combined to keep the score 6-0 with five scoreless innings of relief.

Amarillo reliever David Bednar pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters.

With the win, the Sod Poodles moved one game behind the first-place Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas League South with seven games remaining in the first half of the 2019 campaign.

The Sod Poodles return home to HODGETOWN for the start of a six-game homestand on Tuesday night as they welcome the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to downtown Amarillo for the first time. The ballgame begins at 7:05 p.m.

The Race is On: With the win at Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon, the Sod Poodles once again sit just one game behind the first-place Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas League South first half title race with seven games remaining in the half.

In fact, the entire division is within one game of each other. Corpus Christi and Midland are both just a half game behind Frisco for first place.

Ramirez is Rollin': After delivering a strong seven innings on Tuesday at home against Frisco, righty Emmanuel Ramirez tossed six brilliant innings in relief for a victory on Sunday afternoon at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

Ramirez allowed just four hits and struck out seven, while seeing his ERA dip down to 3.84. Ramirez ranks eighth in the Texas League in ERA and is tied for second in wins (5). He ranks first in the circuit in opponents' batting average (.218) and is third in WHIP (1.10).

In his last four outings (25.1 IP), he's allowed only four earned runs.

Pitching Notes: Amarillo's pitching staff has been very solid so far in June, holding a 3.19 ERA in nine games during the month, which ranks 3rd in the Texas League this month.

The Sod Poodles staff ranked 1st in strikeouts in the Texas League with a grand total of 600 through 60 games entering play on Sunday. The only Double-A staff with more strikeouts belonged to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (affiliate of the Minnesota Twins), who have 601 strikeouts through 62 games.

Consistent Castillo: Sod Poodles infielder Ivan Castillo has collected a hit in 23 of his last 24 games. He holds a current 9-game hit streak, after having a 14-game streak already during this span.

The Big Hit: Amarillo finally broke through with runners in scoring position (RISP) on Saturday, going 6-for-11 with RISP in their 12-3 win. In the two games prior, the Sod Poodles went 2-for-27 with RISP.

Getting the "W": The Sod Poodles snapped a four-game skid on Saturday night. Amarillo has not lost more than four games in a row this season.

Quite the Debut: Right-hander Ronald Bolaños made his regular season Double-A debut on Saturday night and tossed six innings of one-run ball. Bolaños allowed just two hits and struck out eight, while he picked up his first Double-A victory.

Lucky Number 7: Lake Bachar tied his career high in strikeouts in a single game Thursday night against the Hooks when he struck out seven batters over a span of five innings. The last time Bachar struck out seven batters in a game was on April 24, 2018 at Springfield.

On The Hook: The Sod Poodles have not fared well in south Texas this season as they hold a record of 3-8 at Whataburger Field.

Running!: Edward Olivares stole his 14th base on Thursday night. His stolen base remains top-10 in the Texas League.

Strength In Numbers: During the mid-week three-game series against Frisco the Sod Poodles drew a combined attendance of 18,343. Monday night's attendance was 6,142, Tuesday 7,049, and Wednesday afternoon 5,647.
