July 16, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
San Diego Sockers News Release

(July 16, 2003- San Diego) San Diego Sockers General Manager and Head Coach Brian Quinn announced today that the Sockers have traded forward Carlos "Chile" Farias for Baltimore Blast defender Sean Bowers, first and second round picks in the college draft and an undisclosed amount of money.

"From our point of view, we have filled a hole," said Quinn. "Sean is an all-star player, but more importantly, he is a proven winner.. He wanted to be here and we wanted him, so we made it happen."

Bowers, a Mira Mesa High School graduate, was a member of the 2002-03 MISL All-Star team and was named 2001 MISL Defender of the Year. During the 2002-03 season, he totaled 84 blocks and finished with 47 points for the MISL Champion Blast.

Prior to his two-year stint with the Blast, Bowers spent seven years with the Detroit Rockers. He ranks first in the Rockers' record books with 668 points scored and second in assists (149). He was the second player in league history to record 600 points and 600 blocks.

"It is the icing on the cake to be back in my hometown at this point in my career," said Bowers. "I am hoping that my experience will be an asset in helping the Sockers contend for a title."

Farias was the leading scorer in his three-year run with the Sockers (1996, 2001-03). He was the 1996 CISL Rookie of the Year as well as a two-time member of the MISL All-Star Game.

The San Diego Sockers will kick off the 2003-04 season with the home opener on October 4. For more information, including ticket prices, visit the Sockers web site at www.sockers.com.
