San Diego Sockers News Release
The San Diego Sockers have agreed to a new one-year contract with veteran forward and team captain Aaron Susi for the 2010-2011 PASL-Pro championship season. Terms of the deal were not announced.
"We are happy to have Aaron Susi back for a second straight year with the Sockers," said general manager John Kentera, "Aaron was offered other opportunities but wanted to play for his hometown team again in 2010. He's a tremendous leader and great player who wants to finish his career where he started."
Susi, 35, played an instrumental role both on and off the field as the Sockers returned to championship status in 2009-2010. Signed from the California Cougars, Aaron contributed 16 goals and 12 assists in 12 PASL-Pro games, finishing 12th in the league in goals and 14th in scoring. Susi scored one of the most dramatic goals of the season for San Diego, a sudden death game-winning free kick against California on January 2nd at the Del Mar Arena. Gutting his way through torn ankle tendons at the end of the season, Susi still scored a goal with two assists in the Sockers' 11-7 U.S. Open Cup victory over the Louisville Lightning on April 10th, 2010.
Entering his 14th year of professional indoor soccer, Susi has seen his career take him from Arizona to St. Louis, Wichita, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Stockton, along with two tours of duty in San Diego. Aaron scored 63 points in 58 games with the Sockers from 2001-2003. Overall, Aaron has 209 career indoor soccer goals and 453 career points in 369 games.
A San Diego native, Susi has earned soccer acclaim since starring at Mission Bay Soccer Club and with San Diego State. As an Aztec, Aaron was a three-time All-Conference and two-time All-American performer, leading SDSU in scoring his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Susi finished with 78 career points at SDSU, tied for fifth best in school history.
Aaron, is a member of the Sockers' front office in addition to his playing duties.
