
Sockers lose in Baltimore, 5-3

(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) - The Sockers lost their first game of the season to the Baltimore Blast, 5-3, Saturday night in Baltimore. Mark Ughy led the Sockers with two goals and goalkeeper Victor Nogueira saved 14 of 19 shots faced.
Mark Ughy scored the first goal for the Sockers at 11:28 in the first on the power- play, assisted by Steve Butcher (1-0). Baltimore's Denison Cabral answered with a goal of his own at 14:40 with the assist going to P.J. Wakefield (1-1). The only goal in the second period came from Giuliano Celenza at 5:11 off the assist by Chile Farias (2-1).
After the half, Baltimore and San Diego traded three goals within a matter of minutes. Farias increased the Blast's lead by two at 10:57, but the Sockers' Mariano Bollella quickly replied less than a minute later. Celenza then scored his second goal of the night at 12:34 to put Baltimore up 4-2. In the fourth, Paul Wright assisted Ughy on his second goal for the evening (4-3), but just when San Diego tried to get something started, Baltimore's Tarik Walker found the back of the net (5-3).
The Sockers return home on Friday, Oct. 22 to host Western Division rivals the Kansas City Comets. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the San Diego Sports Arena. The evening, dubbed Legends Night, will feature past Sockers stars such as Juli Veee and Cha Cha Namdar in a halftime exhibition game. The Sockers are also partnering up with Looks Like Me, a San Diego-based organization that provides free hairpieces to local children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy treatments or other medical issues.
