San Diego Sockers News Release

SAN DIEGO-The San Diego Sockers are pulling out all the stops in pursuit of their 41st consecutive victory and a United States professional team sports record. They are enlisting the good luck services of the greatest Sockers scorer of all time.

Sockers legend Juli Veee will deliver the ceremonial first kick prior to Friday's opening kickoff between the Toros de Mexico and the San Diego Sockers, set for a 7:35pm start at the Valley View Casino Center. Veee, 62, was part of seven Sockers championships while playing with the indoor team from 1980 to 1988. Veee was the first soccer player inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions and was part of the inaugural class of the Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame.

"Of course it is a great honor to do the first kick and I was happy to do it when the Sockers asked," said Veee, "These boys are playing some great soccer and it's exciting to see them back at the Sports Arena and having so much success."

The Sockers have won 40 consecutive games heading into Friday's contest, tied with the Sioux Falls Storm (United Indoor Football, 2005-2008) for the longest winning streak in US professional team sports history, major or minor league. San Diego is 37-0 all-time at home since returning to action in the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) in 2009.

Veee was credited with 254 goals and 214 assists during his Sockers indoor career, but also played with the outdoor NASL Sockers from 1978-82. A Hungarian native, Veee eventually earned his American citizenship and was selected to the US National Team, earning four caps and scoring two goals between 1976-82. Veee was also part of the 1980 US National Team qualifying for the 1980 Olympics, although the team was held off the field at the Summer Games thanks to the US boycott of the Moscow Games.

Tickets for Friday's game are available by calling (866) 799-GOAL, or by visiting www.sdsockers.com.
