San Diego Sockers News Release
SAN DIEGO, Calif â San Diego Sockers Head Coach Brian Quinn announced today, the final roster for the start of the 2003-04 season, which kicks off this Saturday against the Philadelphia KiXX at 7 p.m. in the San Diego Sports Arena.
The Sockers are returning 12 players from the 2002-03 roster and add veterans and rookies alike.
Probably the most notable addition to the squad is goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, who was acquired through a trade with the Milwaukee Wave. Nogueira holds almost every goalkeeping record and has been dubbed "The Best Goalkeeper in Indoor Soccer". Prior to his time in Milwaukee, Nogueira spent four years with the Sockers, leading the team to four championship titles.
Sean Bowers, a Mira Mesa High School graduate, returns to his native San Diego after spending most of his career with the Baltimore Blast and Detroit Rockers. Bowers is a six-time All Star and was captain of the 2002-03 MISL Champion Baltimore Blast.
Mauricio Alegre and Kevin Legg both have prior experience with the Sockers. Legg was a midfielder for the team in the 1994 and 1995 seasons. In his two-year stint with the Sockers, he totaled 34 points in 37 games played. Alegre was a member of the 2001 WISL San Diego Sockers, playing in 20 games and totaling 19 points.
Rookies this season include Adriano Lima, a forward out of Cal State Fullerton, Jacob Ward, a defender from Azusa Pacific University and Dede Lleshi, a Kosovo native that has played overseas.
