NEWPORT, R.I. - GabeSnyder's walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inningpushed the Newport Gulls past the Plymouth Pilgrims, 5-4 on Wednesday night.Gulls' reliever David Palmer earnedthe win throwing the 11th inning scoreless. Pilgrims' reliever Connor Speed took the loss allowing oneearned run in the bottom of the 11th.
Plymouth struck first in the top of the second inning after Patrick Dorrian reached on an error, drivingin Zachary McGuire from second base.Newport evened things up at 1-1 in the third when Liam O'Regan came around to score off a double by Kameron Misner. Plymouth's Chase Cheek would come around to scorein the top of the sixth inning on a single by James Venuto, giving the Pilgrims a 2-1 advantage.
With two runners on for the Pilgrims, holding on to a 2 - -1lead in the top of the seventh inning, the sky opened up forcing the CardinesField grounds crew to pull the tarp onto the field suspending play for onehour.
Following the rain delay, the Pilgrims added to their leadwhen Brandon Martorano's single offdrove in Dorrian and Connor Brumfieldto give Plymouth a 4 - -1 lead.
Newport narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the seventhafter Domenic DeRenzo scored fromthird base on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Cade Cabbiness came around to score for the Gulls on a sacrificefly by Ty Duvall. Newport knotted up the score at 4-4 in the bottom of theeighth when Misner crossed the plate after NickDerr was hit by a pitch.
The score remained tied at 4-4 until the bottom of the 11thinning when Snyder lifted the Gulls over the Pilgrims on a two-out, walk-off RBIsingle, driving in J.C. Flowers fromthird base.
Newport (11-16) looks to win its fifth straight on Thursdaynight when they head to Groton, C.T., to take on the fourth-place MysticSchooners (13-14). First pitch, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., can be seen and heardon the NECBL Broadcast Network.
