Nashville Venom News Release

NASHVILLE-The final bye week of season has past and the Nashville Venom (4-3) has turned their sights to getting back to winning. In Week 9, the Venom fell to the Columbus Lions 44-38. The loss hampered Nashville in their quest to win the regular season championship which would have given them home field advantage throughout the playoffs. On Friday (7 p.m. Municipal Auditorium) the Marion Blue Racers (5-3) out of the X-League come to town.

"We have five games left and we need to win them all," said Venom head coach Billy Back. "We need to play hard this week. Lehigh handled Marion pretty good earlier in the season. I am sure they want to make that up on us. They have some athletes so we better be ready."

Back was adamant about making changes on the offensive line. The Venom suffered eight center-QB exchange fumbles against Columbus. The last one was the most crucial. It happened with under a minute to play with the Venom inside Lion territory. The defense struggled in the first half giving up 33 points. Venom players are anxious to get back on the field.

"I really, really hate to lose," said Venom DB Ken Walton (Lebanon High). "I hate to lose more than I like to win. It is time to get back on track heading into the home stretch of our schedule and hopefully into the playoffs."
