
Smokies Take Game Two

Sevierville, Tenn.- Tennessee jumped out to an early lead and was able to hold on for a 7-4 victory over Chattanooga Thursday Night. With the win the Smokies took a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of- five series. The series will move west to Chattanooga for game 3 on Friday Night.
Brad Thompson (W, 9-2, 1-0) pitched five solid innings allowing only one run to earn the win. Thompson was pitching with a lead after the second inning when a wild pitch by Lookouts starter Rich Gardner (L, 5-3, 0-1) plated a run. In the same inning Thompson stroked a two rbi double to make the lead 3-0 Tennessee.
The Smokies added to the lead in the third when Chris Duncan stroked a two-run home run to increase the lead to 5-0. Thompson was finally touched for a run in the fourth when Tony Blanco hit a solo home run to left field.
The Lookouts got another solo shot in the sixth from Edwin Encarnacion off Greg Bauer making the score 5-2. Tennessee responded in the bottom of the half with two more runs of there own coming on a two-run double by Milko Jaramillo to put the game out of reach.
Chattanooga got two runs in the eighth to make it close. A three base error by Gabe Johnson allowed both runs to score.
The series will head to Bell South Park Friday Night. Jeremy Cook (8-3, 4.19) will head to the mound against Elizardo Ramirez (1-0, 3.19) of Chattanooga. The Smokies can clinch a spot in the Southern League Championship Series with a win.
