Smokies Stage Late Comeback to Take Game 1
May 31, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Barons began their second straight road series in Kodak, TN against the Smokies with a 4-2 loss.
Craig Dedelow opened the scoring in the second with a two run home run, his twelfth of the year and the only runs of the contest for the Barons.
RHP Sean Burke started the game for the Barons and tossed his first quality start in 2022 through six innings, allowing only five hits and keeping the Smokies off the board. RHP Edgar Navarro took over for Burke in the bottom of the seventh and allowed two runs for the Smokies to tie the game with a two run home run from Levi Jordan. Navarro would not return for the eighth in favor of RHP Taylor Broadway, who would face his own struggles with a home run from Alexander Canario to give the Smokies their first lead of the game and an RBI single from Bryce Windham that tacked on the final run for Tennessee.
The Barons will look to even the series tomorrow with RHP Jason Bilous (2-4) to start for Birmingham.
