Smokies Grab Game One, 6-3

Huntsville, AL. -Mark Holliman pitched a game one gem limiting the Huntsville Stars to five hits and two runs in his seven inning start on route to 6-3 Smokies win. Holliman struck out six and walked two while also retiring the side in order three of his innings.

The Smokies offence gave him the run support he needed with a four run first. Tennessee got to the Stars southpaw Sam Narron after he retired the first two batters in the inning. Casey McGehee walked and Tyler Colvin doubled to set up Issmael Salas. Salas doubled in both runners and scored on Chris Robinson's base knock. Gary Cates then singled and Robinson Chirnos followed with a fifth straight hit run the total to 4-0.

Tennessee added a fifth run in the fourth inning on a McGehee basehit which scored Chirnos.

Huntsville answered in the bottom of the fourth and also added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Rocky Roquet got out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the eighth and kept Huntsville off the score board in the ninth for the games save.

Game two is Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. The Smokies will start Justin Berg (7-7, 4.95) while the Stars are sending Corey Thurman (5-8, 4.36) Tennessee will host game three of the series Saturday September the 8th.
