
Smokies Get Shut Out For The First Time In 95 Games

KODAK, TN- The Smokies got shutout for the first time since April 22nd, a stretch lasting 95 games and seventh in minor league baseball. The Smokies struckout 10 times and only left a total of six runners on base.
The Trash Pandas struck first for the third game in a row with a solo home run by David Calabrese in the top of the third to make it 1-0. In the fourth, the Trash Pandas hit back-to-back home runs off the bats of Jose Gomez and Gabe Mathews to make it 3-0.
In the top of the seventh, Rocket City broke the game open scoring three runs. The scoring started when Nolan Schanuel hit a double to score Kyren Paris and Calabrese to make it 5-0. Tucker Flint singled to score Schanuel and extend the lead to 6-0.
The Rocket City bullpen tossed five scoreless frames, while striking out six batters to shutout the Smokies. The series continues tomorrow when Walker Powell takes the hill for Tennessee. Powell has won a Southern League best five starts in a row. First pitch is set for 7:00 P.M.
