JACKSON, Tenn. (May 12, 2013) - The Generals (15-19) dropped the series opener Sunday night to the Tennessee Smokies (17-18), 5-0. The Generals were shutout for just the fourth time this season and had scored 20 runs in their last two games.

After a scoreless first inning, the Smokies struck first in the second. Christian Villanueva led off the inning with a double and advanced home off the bat of Jonathan Mota. Tim Torres scored off the bat of Jair Fernandez, then Fernandez touched home after another base hit from Matt Szczur. The Smokies gained a 3-0 advantage halfway through one.

Through the first three innings, the Smokies' hitters led off each inning with a double. In the third, Smokies' shortstop Arismendy Alcantara began the inning with a double. Alcantara advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded.

Smokies starter Kyle Hendricks (W, 2-2) had a perfect game through 3.2 innings, but Brad Miller (3-4, 3 1B) broke it up with a single in the fourth.

Offensively, Miller paced the Generals with three hits, while Brandon Bantz (1-4, 1B), Leon Landry (1-4, 1B) and Julio Morban contributed with hits as well.
