Louisville Fire News Release

WHAT A COMEBACK: The Fire and Macon went back and forth for much of the first and trailed 27-20 at halftime. The Fire was outscored by Macon 10-0 in the third quarter and trailed 37-20 after three. The fourth quarter was a different story however as the Fire would outscore the Knights 35-17 to take home the victory 55-54. Leading 51-41 with 2:08 left in the game the Knights would settle for a Sharif Najib field goal to go up 54-41. The Fire scored on the ensuing possession with 42 seconds left to cut the lead to 54-48. The Fire recovered the onside kick and Matt Sauk found Nate Green from 25 yards out to tie the score 54-54. Danny Kight split the uprights with the extra point to take a 55-54 led. Macon then had a chance to take the lead but Najib's 37 yard field goal attempt went right and the Fire recovered to survive, won their sixth straight, the first round and move onto Manchester on Friday night.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES: After a scoreless third quarter the Fire offense put 35 points on the board in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Matthew Sauk threw for seven touchdowns on 30-42 passing for 296 yards. Sauk once again spread the ball around completing pass to five receivers. Rookie of the Year candidate Rob Mager caught 15 passes for 167 yards and four touchdowns. Lawrence Matthews caught five balls for 41 yards. Cesare Manning found the end zone twice and caught five passes for 46 yards. Nate Green was a true iron man catching the game winning touchdown pass and hauling in four passed for 39 yards. Green also returned four kicks for 129 yards and had four tackles on defense. The defense was lead by the defensive specialists Kabote Siykala and Rob Green who each recorded five tackles.

NEXT UP: The Fire will head to Manchester on Thursday for a Friday night game with the Wolves. The East division rivals met twice this season with each team winning at home. The Wolves defeated the Fire on May XXX 46-37 and the Fire won in Freedom Hall two weeks ago 78-61. Game time is set for 7:30 and can be heard on 1080-AM WKJK.
