Louisville Fire News Release

FIRE HEADS TO QUAD CITY: The Fire will travel north to Quad City this weekend for their first game of 2005 against the Steamwheelers (3-5). The last time the two teams met, in the 2004 playoffs, the Fire won on a Derrick Shepard missed field goal return for a touchdown to give the Fire their first ever playoff victory. Kick off is set for 8:30 at The Mark in Moline, IL, and the game will be broadcast on 1080-AM WKJK with Wayne Kraus filling in for Paul Wilman.

FIRE SURVIVES OT: After jumping out to a 14-0 lead the Fire defeated the Albany Conquest 62-55 in overtime on Friday night. The Fire's offensive effort was led by FB/LB Demetrius "the Freight Train" Forney's team record five rushing touchdowns, which also tied him for the all-time af2 record for rushing touchdowns in a game. Forney scored the go ahead touchdown on the Fire's first possession in overtime. Following the touchdown Forney and Paul White both got to Albany's QB D Bryant and caused a fumble which Ja'Dae McGuire recovered for the victory.

RECORD BREAKERS: The Fire has been busy the past two home games breaking four individual team records. Last week against Florida Matthew Sauk set the team record for completions in a game with 36, Dennis Fryzel tied the record for most receptions in a game, 14, and Demetrius Forney broke the record for most games played as a member of the Fire, 46. Forney then turned around against Albany and set the team record for rushing touchdowns in a game with five.

THE CHASE FOR 300: Matthew Sauk threw four touchdown passes against Albany on Friday night, giving him 285 for his career. At his current pace Sauk should reach the 300 mark either against Green Bay on June 18 or at Albany on June 25.

TURNOVER: The Fire is currently fifth in af2 in turnover margin with a plus five on the season. The Fire is 4-1 when they tie or commit fewer turnovers than their opponent, and 1-2 when they turn the ball over more than their opponent.
