Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - With the collegiate season slowly starting to come to a close, upcoming Rogues players are gearing up for post-season and summer play. Despite the action starting to come to an end, there are still some Rogues getting in as much experience as possible. Grand View's junior second baseman Zac Smit claims this week's Player of the Week for his second award this season following a standout performance for the Vikings.

Smit, a native of Paulsbo, WA, and Grand View played five double-headers to end an exhausting week with an even 5-5 record. Smit was at bat 32 times which resulted in 13 hits, 11 runs, and six RBI's for a batting average of .406 on the week. Defensively, Smit posted 29 putouts along with 17 assists. After a slow start, Smit has built his average to .272 with one home run and 18 RBI.

Posting a perfect winning record over the week is the University of New Mexico with both Andre Vigil and Jared Holley actively contributing to Los Lobos' success. Vigil ended with an average of .333 from 21 at bats for seven hits, three runs, and four RBI's along with two putouts and 12 assists. Holley had 19 at bats, three runs, five hits, and two RBI's for a batting average of .263 along with 14 putouts and 14 assists.

Earning honorable mentions this week are catcher Kyle Beam of Lane CC and outfielder Clayton Meyer of Morehead. Beam had 10 at bats leading five hits, one run and two RBI's as Lane swept Clackamas 5-0. Meyer and Morehead ended at an even 2-2 record with Meyer having seven at bats, three hits, one run, and two RBI's along with four putouts.

The Rogues also announced some roster moves this week, adding three sophomores; 1B Nathan Ethridge (Grants Pass High School and Western Oregon University), OF Ramon Laureno (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M) and SS Tucker Campbell (Lane CC).

Ethridge, 6'5", 220, is currently hitting .296 with three home runs and 21 RBI for the Wolves, and has made no errors on the year as Western Oregon's every day first baseman. He is second on the team in home runs and third in RBI. Ethridge replaces infielder Joe Love (Northern Colorado) on the Rogues roster.

Laureno, a 5'11", 185 pound native of the Dominican Republic via Dix Hills, NY, is among the top 25 in all of junior college baseball in batting average (.417, tied for 22nd), home runs (9, tied for 14th) and RBI (51, 12th in the country), and has 15 stolen bases on the season. He replaces RHP Jake Jewell, also of Northeastern, on the Rogues roster.

Campbell, a 6'1", 190 pound native of Tigard, is Lane's every day shortstop and is hitting .289 with 12 RBI and four stolen bases on the season for the Titans. Campbell replaces RHP Dalton Douty (Cypress JC) on the roster.
