Springfield Sliders News Release

With the season rapidly approaching, the Springfield Sliders continue to round out their roster for the 2012 season with the signing of three players returning from the 2011 squad. The signing of OF Mike Fitzgerald and RHP Bryce Sablotny as well as LHP Justin Hunsaker brings the number of former Sliders returning for 2012 to five.

Fitzgerald (Rochester) and Sablotny (Chatham) are local products, while Hunsaker is from Mesa, AZ

"We know that there is considerable talent in our home area and we want to showcase that talent," said Sliders' skipper Pete Romero "I hope the fans of Central Illinois will come out and support the local talent as well as the young men who have come to Springfield from other parts of the country."

Fitzgerald is the son of former MLB player Mike, Sr. and was a standout for the Sliders last season when he hit .338 with 5 HR and 31 RBI for Springfield. He was a standout at Lincoln Land CC and looks to be headed to Indiana State this fall.

Sablotny was 2nd on the Springfield club in innings pitched last season (55), going 4-3 with a 4.42 ERA. He has been solid for Lincoln Land CC this spring, compiling a 9-3 record in 12 starts with a 3.74 ERA.

Hunsaker pitched in relief for the Sliders in 2011 striking out 19 in 21 innings of work. As a sophomore this season at Chandler-Gilbert CC in Arizona, he has a 2-1 record.

Romero and his staff will welcome the Sliders to town on May 24 and the first full workout will be held on May 25 at Robin Roberts Stadium. Opening day is Tuesday, May 29.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
