Sliders Sign Final 4 Position Players For 2012

With Opening Day exactly one week away, the Springfield Sliders have announced the signing of four more players to fill out the remaining position player spots on the roster.

Matt Stevens, a 6' 4", 210lb. Sophomore Catcher from St. Charles, IL, is coming off a great season with Elgin CC. He hit .386 with 3 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.

Jake Bergren, a 6', 190 lb. Freshman Outfielder from South Elgin, IL, joins the Sliders after a great freshman season at the University of Minnesota. He hit .364 with an on-base percentage of .438.

6' 3", 220 lb. infielder Reagan Fowler from Creighton University will also be making his way to Springfield this summer. He redshirted this season after making All-State second team in his senior season of high school.

Sliders' manager Pete Romero is bringing 6' 2", 215 lb. Sophomore Catcher Conner Dunn with him from CSU-Pueblo. In limited action, Dunn had 4RBIs, a .364 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 fielding percentage this season.

The players arrive on May 24 and the first full team workout will be held on May 25 at Robin Roberts Stadium.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex. Opening Day is May 29.
