Sliders Make Managerial Change

July 9, 2014 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Sliders announced today that manager Pete Romero will not finish out the season with the team and has been replaced by interim manager Vic Aure.

Vic has been an assistant coach with the Sliders since 2011 and has worked under Romero for the last three seasons serving as pitching coach and an assistant coach. Vic has many years of baseball coaching experience as well as working as a scout for the Pittsburg Pirates organization.

"We'd like to thank Pete for his work and dedication he has put in with the Sliders over the last three and a half seasons. There is no manager in the league that worked harder on the field and in the community than Pete," said Bill Hill, the Sliders General Manager.

"Obviously, the performance on the field over the last season and a half is not what we expect as an organization and we felt that it was time to get some new leadership in the clubhouse as we look toward building a winning team in 2015," continued Hill.

Aure will manage the Sliders on an interim basis until a permanent manager is named.

"Vic will do a good job. He is more than capable of managing this team and he is already familiar with our players and our league so there shouldn't be any surprises the rest of the season. We're counting heavily on Vic to ensure a smooth ride over the last month of the season," said owner Shane Martin.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League with teams in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Their 60 game schedule begins in late May and runs into August. All Sliders home games are played at Robin Roberts Stadium located at 1415 N Grand Ave E in Springfield, IL.
