
Sliders Add Texas Pitcher

Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders announced today the signing of pitcher Dallas Ponder out of Texas A&M Kingsville. Ponder is in his junior year at Kingsville and has pitched for the Javelinas since 2011.
Ponder has started out of the gate strong for Kingsville this season in four starting appearances. He is 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA over 22 innings of work. He has struck out 17 while walking 6 and giving up only 16 hits in the young season.
In 2012 Ponder accumulated 49.1 innings of work in a mix of starts and relief appearances. He managed a 4-1 record in 13 games and struck out 52 in just 49 innings of work and allowed only 43 hits. He finished the season with a solid 3.12 ERA
High School: Ponder led Flatonia High School to the baseball state finals in 2008. He earned all-state honors as a sophomore. He was a three-time first team all-district selection and was the 2010 District Offensive Player of the Year. He was the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament Most Valuable Player and Babe Ruth World Series Home Run Derby champion. He was an honor graduate and a member of the National Honor Society.Personal: Ponder is the son of Kenneth and Beverly Ponder and is studying Architectural Engineering. His father played baseball at the University of Texas.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League with teams in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Their 60 game schedule begins in late May and runs into August. All Sliders home games are played at Robin Roberts Stadium located at 1415 N Grand Ave E in Springfield, IL.
